just wanted to give a basic rundown for what my goals are for this comic. I don’t know how long it’s going to be, but it’s definitely going to be journey for sure.
One of the primary goals I have for this comic are improving my ability to write dialogue. Dialogue has never been my strong suite, and I want to see what people thing and what feedback I can get from the dialogue I write. I hope it’ll get criticism (constructive) and my dialogue writing skills can improve over time. My biggest issue with dialogue, I think, is I make it much too wordy. Honestly, this is an issue with my writing in general. I am bad at deciding when to add extra details or just leave them out for clarity’s sake. It’s an important balance to hit, and one that I’ve never been particularly skilled at. I think the stories I tell have unique plots and have the potential to be super interesting, but I’m paranoid they’re brought down by boring dialogue. It’s possible I’ll go back to earlier parts of the story as I improve to rewrite some conversations. I know that I will do this in some capacity for keeping continuity, since there are still details about the story I haven’t figured out yet. I don’t know if I will end up rewriting whole conversations, or just adding/changing sentences here or there, but I will keep an archive of the changes I make so you can still see the original work if you so desire.
Secondly, I want to use this as an opportunity to improve my comedy writing. I think I do okay at that, but I still fall in to that “it’s funny because it’s random” trap. My current epic strategy to mitigate this is basically just overuse the joke so much that it becomes ingrained into the story so it’s not “random.” I think I could come up with other ideas, though, and also figure out better types of humor to begin with. I write jokes like I’m Toby Fox writing Deltarune Chapter 2, except bad, and I want to have my own style of humor. I’m gonna do my best to develop that
A few extra notes: I have an ending in mind for this story. I know the overall plot, but I don’t know a lot of specific details or scenes in it. Usually when I start making something to tell a story, I have a detailed plot, or at least a detailed outline of the ending. This time, I just went “I wanna make a comic” and as soon as I had that picture of Mila I uploaded that with no other ideas in mind. It’s been a few days so I’ve had plenty of time to develop and get inspired, so I think the plot will be interesting, and there will be something being built up to. I like to get my endings thought out as soon as possible because the worst thing a story can do is have a fantastic plot and then just fizzle at the ending. I hope my ideas will be good enough to satisfy. I also hope that the story will have a good hook early on. I started it at the end and just threw you into it (well, I decided that this was the “end” after I uploaded the first couple pages) since I think those kinds of stories are cool, since you have an idea of what’s coming. I’m not going to specify what happens since there will be several more pages until the end of the prologue, where the prologue will end with a short, minute long “animated” video. (It’s not fancy, it’s just a bunch of panels with sprites moving around and music is in the background (oh yeah, I’m also writing all of the music for this))
Anyway, uh, I think that’s all I have to say for now, thanks for reading my rambling, and I hope you all will enjoy.
